The TRUSTED CHOICE BIG “I” NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (Big “I”) is a nationally recognized tournament for teenage amateur golfers that is designed to foster good sportsmanship and healthy competition among youth.

 

Begun in 1969, the local and state qualifying tournaments and the Big “I” national finals draw one of the nation's largest field of junior competitors. These tournaments are sponsored by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Inc. (IIABA), its affiliated state and local associations, and contributing companies. The boys champion receives the coveted Robert Trent Jones Trophy, named after the world-famous golf course architect. The girls champion receives the Mayerstein Trophy. The first Big “I”, played in 1969, involved juniors from 18 states and was played at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana. Since that time, each year more than 3,000 young golfers from 44 states participate in this event. The addition of the Patrick Cannon Memorial Long Drive event has added fierce competition among the juniors at the tournament. In 1993, a girls division was added to the championship program, with nearly 1,000 participating nationally each year.
